I have been in the internet business since 1996.
There is no GREEN hosting services.
let me explain the terms.
hosting mean they have a Server in a room. it does not imply any software but the operation system. These rooms have a network that connects each server to the internet. The Power for these servers is generated by the power company, unless there is a power outage. then they switch to a desiel power Generator.
To be Green would entaile a Solar, and or Wind system. Both are unreliable to provide power at the right time if there is a power outage.
They use Batteries for back up while switch between Grid power and internal power, so those are not Green either.
Bottom line there is no GREEN Hosting service. Now there is one exception, in the Washington State the power is generated by Dams on the columbia river. The problem is Washington can not produce enough power for the peak demands so buy power from other sources that are not GREEN.
Next is Web hosting.
Web hosting comes in two flavors, Shared hosting an Dedicated hosting. this is where a company either contracts with a hosting service like above and then charges for a Web software they put on it or They create thier own hosting Company and Provide web Software.
To give you a lower cost they put many clients on one server, hence the shared hosting. The problem is that the amount of people that are on a shared hosting server are enough, to cause slow responses. this is usually with the under $50 a month hosting packages.
The cheaper the Hosting package slower the response from your website.
Slow response is what kills sales for a ecommerce website. most people are impulse buyers and 15 sec can be the difference between a sale or not.
Yes yahoo has problems, but there is not one shared hosting company that does not.
You don't want to get on a platform that does not let you move you website if you chose to. if you go with Yahoo, and some others, you can not just pick up your website and move to another host.
There are a lot of concernes to deal with a ecmmerce site. Like having Credit card information your site stores stolen.
This could cause you large fines, if it happens.
no you can not move the yahoo hosting anywhere. It is stated in the Terms of service. Besides the Code yahoo uses only works on there severs.
if you want to learn about yahoo from store owners.
